The SGC battery separator is designed for use when an auxillary battery is used in addition to the main battery and charging system of a vehicle. The unit protects the main battery and the auxillary battery by continually monitoring the status of each battery's charge potential. It has two basic functions:
1. Assist engine in starting - the Smart Selenoid will compare voltages of both batteries and will draw power from both if necessary. The start signal must be at least 3V for this to occur.
2. Protect the charging system from excessive drain - The Smart Selenoid will monitor the systems to determine if the batteries are being charged. If the drain on the system reduces the system voltage below 12.4 to 12.9VDC, the battery seperator will disconnect the banks from each other until either one is charged. A delay function is also incorporated to prevent the separator from reacting to momentary drops in voltage and chattering.
